Take a walk from vineyards through alpine pastures to ancient mountain villages, alpine diaries with raw-milky cheese, mountain lakes, sweeping views, and deep gorges.
The five-day/four-night Aigle to Aigle tour costs CHF647 and includes hotel accommodation, luggage transfer, a guide book, and 20 percent off public transport fees on you arrival/departure.
Starting in Aigle, in the middle of the extensive vineyards of the Rhonetal valley, the round tour links all the major destinations in the Canton Vaud Alps: Aigle, Leysin, Les Mosses, Château-d'Oex, L'Etivaz, Les Diablerets, Villars, and Gryon.
Highlights along the hike include the plaster pyramids at Col de la Croix, where over thousands of years, water and wind have produced a diversity of weathered shapes. Walkers can also take the Kuklos aerial cableway to the station above Leysin which affords panoramic views. The Glacier des Diablerets offers year-round ice and is accessed by the Glacier 3000 aerial cableway. Take a refreshing dip in one of the crystal-clear mountain lakes, such as Lac d'Arnon or Lac Retaud.
Visit a typical alpine dairy where wheels of raw-milk cheese made over a wood fire are stored in old cellars for years. Sampling sessions are on offer in alpine huts at Les Mosses and L'Etivaz, the home of the Gruyère cheese speciality of the same name.
