Central Switzerland hosts music festivals for all tastes this summer: classical, rock, pop, electronic, and folk.
The best of Swiss folk music can be heard in Weggis during the three-day Heirassa Festival June 7-10. This event takes place in June every year in honour of Alois Schilliger. Jan. 17, 2004, Alois Schilliger, one of Switzerland's most famous composers of folk music died. "Heirassa", as he was fondly known, composed hundreds of pieces of music for future generations to enjoy.
On a different note, classical music fans should attend the Solsberg Festival in Olsberg June 15-29. This festival is all about encouraging ambitious young artists from the classical music scene. The Argentinean cellist, Sol Gabetta, started out here two years ago.
The Caribana Festival returns to Nyon June 6-10. This open-air festival is held on the shores of Lake Geneva and features 20 concerts and many DJs.
The popular Greenfield Festival in Interlaken is an alternative rock concert and takes place over three days, June 15-17. Top international and Swiss acts take to the two stage as well as lesser known names. The Greenfield Festival is the only music event ot include the return journey by public transport from every Swiss railway station ot the festival site for fans buying tickets in Switzerland.
Montreux Sundance features some of the biggest names in electronic music and is one of the largest of its kind in Europe. It takes place in Montreux June 29-30.
