Embark on a journey along the Beaujolais Wine Road in the Rhone Alps.

The road has existed for a long time, but it has just been renewed and enlarged by a third. It stretches over 140 kilometres between Chanes in the south of Burgundy and Limonest at the entrance to Lyon and passes through 36 towns where Beaujolais vintage wines are produced.

More than 80 percent of the Beaujolais region's guesthouses are located in wine growing estated, so it's the wine growers who welcome visitors. Wine tastings are generally free and there are stays and courses where you can learn abou tthe vineyard and wine work.

The new edition of the Guide de l'Oenotourisme urges readers to discover the generous landscapes, famous wines, and those who make them. Choose one or more of the 137 cellars in the area in which to taste wine and enjoy tours. Most tours start from Saint Amour, Romaneche-Thorins, Beaujeu, and Brouilly, in the mountains of the green Beaujolais countryside.

The medieval town of Oingt is of particular interest and classified as one of the most beautiful villages in France, renowned for its Mechanical Music Festival on the first weekend of September.
