Val Gardena Active is a weekly programme of mountain events and excursions which are free or discounted to guests staying in participating accommodation.

Outdoor enthusiasts have plenty to choose from, including hiking, biking, climbing, rafting, canyoning, cultural tours, animal watching, yoga, pilates, fitness classes, and children's animation. 

Irene Delazzer at Val Gardena Tourist Office says, "The aim is for guests to explore the unique Dolomites landscape, the diversity of the Puez Odle/Puez Geisler nature reserve, and the numerous hiking paths and mountain bike trails, as well as find out more about the culture, language and tradition."

A number of hikes are offered in the programme; one of the most impressive is the Sunrise Walk. Meet your guide at the Selva Active Tourist Information Office at 3:30 a.m. or 4:30 a.m on set dates in August. Walk for 1.5 hours up into the Stevia Mountain to watch the sun rise across the Dolomites. The total duration of the excursion is four hours. Breakfast is available at the mountain hut for €9.

One of the mountain bike excursions on offer is the Easy Mountain Bike Tour - a six-hour guided ride through pretty villages with a stop for lunch. It takes place twice a week departing at 9:30 a.m. Bike hire not included.

Hour-long outdoor yoga and pilates classes are held in a mountain meadow two mornings a week from 9:30 a.m.

Fitness training is also available led by professional trainers: learn how to run properly at a moderate pace with the right breathing technique. Meet at the Ortisei Tourist Office at 9 a.m. Wednesday mornings.

There is a wealth of mountain activities available throughout the valley, all free or discounted to guests staying in accommodation displaying the ‘Val Gardena Active' symbol.
