Val Gardena hosts a number of cycling events this summer.
The Groden Bike Marathon, June 10, is a new challenge at high altitude. The 111-kilometre race takes place along the Dolomite road, starting and ending in Ortisei with a 3,318-metre difference in altitude. The race runs over to the Passo Sella, Pordoi, Arabba, Livinallongo, Rocca Pietore, Malga Ciapela, Passo Fedaia, Canazei, Passo Sella, Selva, S. Cristina, and Ortisei.
The Sudtirol Sellaronda Hero takes place June 23 and is one of the hardest mountainbike races in the world. It is comprised of two courses crossing many legendary Dolomiti passes - Gardena, Campolongo, Pordoi, Sella, as well as the Duron Pass, leading around the Sella (3152 metres) and the Sassolungo Massifs (3,181 metres). The course measures 90 kilometres and has a 4200-metre difference in altitude. The winner of the competition will be crowned "Hero of the Sudtirol".
The Sellaronda Bike Day takes place June 24 The main street starting from Hotel Maciaconi and all Dolomitie's passes round the Sella (Sella, Gardena, Pordoi, and Campolongo) will be closed for motorised traffic and accessible for cyclists only between 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 pm.
