Over the past four years "Les Vins du Valais" has become the spring event not to be missed.

It is part of the 2010-2012 marketing strategy of Interprofession de la Vigne et du Vin du Valais, which aims to make Valais the preferred wine-producing destination of the Swiss.

Les Vins du Valais Wineries open days will take place May 17, 18 and 19,  during the Ascension public holiday weekend, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

For three days, 200 wine producers invite visitors to taste their exceptional wines in a festive and friendly atmosphere.

Each year, in spring and in autumn, the Interprofession de la Vigne et du Vin du Valais hosts contest called "La Sélection Vins du Valais". Wines are tasted by a jury of professionals who give notes to the wines according to various criteria. The best wines noted obtain a gold or silver star. 

The jury of professionals recruited in the wine and gastronomy world is chaired by Corinne Clavien, oenologist at the cantonal service of agriculture. 

The spring contest "Sélection des Vins du Valais" will take place June 14 and 15 in Sierre.

Valais is known for its extraordinary mix of soil types, sun exposure and micro-climates. A number of grape varieties find perfect growing conditions here.
