The Theodul Glacier (Zermatt) and the Fee Glacier (Saas-Fee) in Valais open for summer skiing in May.
The Theodul Glacier is open May 7 to Oct.14. It connects the ski areas of Zermatt with Cervinia in Italy and it is served by the Matterhorn Glacier Paradise, the highest cable car in Europe, which takes skiers up to 3820 metres. In summer 2009, for the first time, the Italian side of the Zermatt/Cervinia ski area opened, making up one of the biggest summer domains in Europe. In total there are 13 runs (20 kilometres) on the glacier, most of them red and blue, and the pistes are served by seven drag lifts. Advanced skiers can test their ability on the racing tracks and moguls. The Gravity Snowboard Park boasts a superpipe, kicker park, and rail park. A one-day sumer ski pass costs CHF80 adults, CHF75 seniors (born up to 1946), CHF68 youth (1991-1994), and CHF40 children (1995-2001). More information
Open July 3 - Sept. 4, the Fee Glacier (3,600m) offers 20 kilometres of pistes. The funicular runs to the top; from here three drags serve the ski area. Both national and international ski teams come here to train each summer. From July to September, the Fee Glacier is also a meeting place for freestylers, who come to show off their skills in the freestyle park. There are two lines of kickers, a halfpipe, and various rails and boxes. Saas-Fee is one of the leading summer freestyle areas in Europe; each July it hosts the Saas-Fee Ride Big Air competition, complete with DJs and a barbecue. Take a break at the Chillout Zone with music and couches located below the pipe. A one-day summer ski pass is CHF65. More information
